Assam: High-level team visits flood-affected areas of Lakhimpur district

A high-level Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) visited Lakhimpur district on Thursday in order to take stock of the damage caused by current waves of flood. As per report, the team is scheduled to visit three districts of Upper Assam, viz- Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Biswanath districts.

LAKHIMPUR: A high-level Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) visited Lakhimpur district on Thursday in order to take stock of the damage caused by current waves of flood. As per report, the team is scheduled to visit three districts of Upper Assam, viz- Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Biswanath districts.

The team was led by CG Rajini Kaanthan, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs. The other members of the team are Sanjay Kumar Singh, SE, Ministry of Jalshakti, Adelbert Sungi, SE/Regional Officer, Ministry of Road Transport and Pooja Jain, Deputy Director, Central Electricity Authority, Ministry of Power. On the other hand, Rajesh Dutta, Engineering Consultant (EQ) ASDMA and Ankur Bikash Dev, PO (DRR), ASDMA assisted the team as Protocol Officers.

Arriving in Lakhimpur, the members of the high-level team held a review meeting with the district administration at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the presence of the District Officers of the government departments regarding flood damages. Then the team visited unplugged embankment of the River Singara at Chamua-Sholmuriya under Nowboicha Revenue Circle. There the members of the team inspected houses, school buildings, crop areas, PWD roads, which were ravaged by sudden surge caused by River Singara on June 14.

Thereafter, the team visited the breached agri-bundh of River Gabharu. There the members took stock of the damaged PWD roads at Baligaon and Joriguri villages, which were affected by the same river. The team also visited the erosion-affected area at No. 2 Parbotipur under Bihpuria Revenue Circle. At this place, River Dikrong has continued massive erosion for four years. Then the team went to Gahpur of Biswanath district.

During the visit to the flood-affected areas of Lakhimpur, the team was accompanied by District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, ADC Sanjib Doloi, Circle Officers of Nowboicha and Bihpuria Revenue Circles, officers of the DDMA, District Officers of the WRD, PWD (Roads), PHE and Agriculture departments. The members of the team interacted with the flood affected people in the visited areas.
